Sapphire fossickingThe Prospectors and Miners Association of Tasmania was formed to encourage and protect fossicking, prospecting and small-scale mining in Tasmania. Fossicking and prospecting are traditional and fun heritage activities that can involve the whole family!

Do you enjoy a casual fossick for agates or petrified wood on the Rose Bay foreshore? Maybe you like digging for fern in Lune River, or sapphires at Moorina? Perhaps you’re interested in gold prospecting, or small scale mining? All of these are regulated in Tasmania by the Mineral Resources Development Act of 1995, through Mineral Resources Tasmania. These activities are all under threat from a bureaucracy that doesn’t understand, care about or respect the needs of fossicker and prospector.

If you enjoy fossicking and prospecting and you’d like your children and grandchildren to be able to enjoy it too, then get active, join PMAT today and help us get a better deal for fossickers, prospectors and small-scale miners in Tasmania!
